Elly MacKay works from the attic of her old Victorian house in Owen Sound, Canada where she lives with her husband and children. She creates unique images through using layers of paper, light and photography. Elly attended the Nova Scotia College of Art for printmaking but also had an informal education in paper arts by visiting members of the Movable Book Society by train when she was a teen. She now creates picture books and illustrates covers for novels.
She is the author-illustrator of several novels including In the Clouds as well as Hidden Treasure, The Tallest Tree House, Red Sky at Night, Waltz of the Snowflakes, Butterfly Park, Shadow Chasers, and If You Hold a Seed, and the illustrator of Too Early by Nora Ericson, Zap! Clap! Boom! by Laura Purdie Salas, I Am a Meadow Mermaid and The Secret Fawn by Kallie George, Maya by Mahak Jain, Beach Baby by Laurie Elmquist, Fall Leaves by Loretta Holland, and various Anne of Green Gables covers.
